Health Order Update Vaccine – September

The recent government announcement has impacted a number of changes to Stride Place and will affect all users.

Effective Friday September 3rd only individuals who are double vaccinated will be able to enter the building. Please come prepared to show both your vaccine card and your ID. We will have someone at the south entrance scanning vaccination cards and checking IDs prior to admittance.

At this time, it is not a requirement for youth under the age of 17 to be fully vaccinated to participate in youth recreational sports.  We will not require proof of vaccination for anyone under the age of 17 if they are participating in scheduled youth programming.

Youth under 17 and over 11 will not be permitted without proof of vaccination to enter Stride Place for any reason other than participating in organized sports.

Ineligible youth, children up to 11 years old, will be able to enter the facility with an accompanying adult who meets the vaccination requirement.

Masks continue to be mandatory while in the facility unless you are engaging in physical activity.

As we have in the past, we will continue to follow all Health Orders and will evolve as they do.

We thank you for your continued support and patience during these times.

Hello All Parents and Judoka of the Portage Judo Club

On Tuesday of last week I made a phone call that started the wheels rolling on the search to find a new head coach for the Portage Judo Club.

A couple of health issues, which I need attending to this winter, a one-year-old grandson in Alberta whom I have only been able to visit once since he was born and fifty plus years of judo wear and tear on my body have added up to convince me this is the time to let someone else run the club.

I will never abandon the club and if no suitable judoka applies before the start of this season I will stay on and run things until a suitable replacement has been found.

Manitoba is blessed with an abundance of very talented and successful judoka who I feel would be a better choice to pass on their knowledge and keep this club as one of the most popular in the province.

I have booked our facility to start first classes on September 21, 2021 as long as Covid 19 protocols allow us to do so.  If you have any other questions or concerns please feel free to call my cell at 204-256-3684.

Further information about registering for classes will be up on the website shortly.

Judo Update

Due to the current upswing in positive Covid tests and the move by the province to reinstate level red safety protocols for the City of Winnipeg and surrounding areas the plan to start Portage Judo Club classes on November 12th has been delayed till after the Xmas school break. I will consult with the assistant coaches early in the New Year about opening up as long as Covid levels recede. Feel free to call if you have any further questions.

Jude Update-September 7/20

Due to the current situation and the nature of the sport of judo where contact is necessary, we regret to announce that classes have been delayed until November 12, 2020.

We will start with one class per night consisting of 13 years of age and over.

No beginners will be allowed at this time due to space restrictions necessary to comply with Judo Manitoba return to play regulations.

Registration can be done by texting me your name along with 2 others that you will consider to be your bubble partners.

On the first night of classes you must each fill out and print off:

  • Judo Manitoba registration sheet
    • Covid declaration form
    • Assumption of risk form if under 18 years of age
    • Judo Manitoba Waiver if over 18 years of age

If Covid-19 remains at infection rates which allow us to continue operating under stage 2 regulations, an under 13 of age class will start up in January.

Class time is from 7:30-8:30 Tuesday and Thursday nights.

This schedule was decided upon at a meeting of coaches and some parents held last week.

If you have any questions or comments, feel free to call or text me on my cell at

204-856-3684.

More info on what class criteria we will follow can be found on Judo Manitoba website under Return to Play.

Sincerely

Portage Judo update

Hello everyone

We are all going through something we have never experienced before. I feel that our year never had the proper closure it should have had. I am trying to organize a final get together/barbecue picnic and am looking for a date in late July. The Asham family  have graciously offered to host this event. More info will be made available as soon as possible and all Covid protocols will be in place.

On another note I have been waiting to see how this whole Corona effect would play out. Judo Manitoba held Sport Manitoba’s  first virtual AGM this past Saturday and although work is being done we are a long way off yet from having a consistent set of protocols that will allow us to open up Dojo’s in Manitoba. I feel we need to move forward somehow so I am encouraging you to text me if you or your siblings are interested in classes for the 20/21 season.
Brian Case 204-856-3684.

As for last season I feel for those who paid for classes that they never got. I am suggesting at this point Portage Judo will allow a credit against 20/21 registration fees . For those that may not know new mats were ordered last season and we need to be fiscally responsible and keep enough funds in the bank to cover our room rentals.

If you feel this suggestion is unfair or have a better idea I encourage you to contact me or any of our other assistant instructors so we can bring your idea forward. Thanks for your patience in this situation and I look forward to seeing you all in Judo classes at some point in the not too distant future.

Sincerely Yours
