Parade, Provincials, and Holiday Classes

Okay, let’s take it from the top…

On Friday, Dec 2, we will be entering a float in the Rotary Club Parade of Lights. We hope that all our younger athletes will show up around 7pm at the Co-op parking lot. Please dress warm with your judo gi over your jacket. If you wish, you can bring a bag of candy to hand out along the route. We strongly encourage you to bring the whole family, or at least one parent or older sibling. The float will be there around 6pm, but it is usually quite cold waiting outside, so try not to be too early. The Parade starts at 7:30 and runs about an hour depending on where we are in the line up. We will drop people off just east of Lions Prairie Manor on Saskatchewan Avenue. We would appreciate any senior athletes or coaches who are available to help out also. Take a bunch of pictures out there, and text them to me at 204-761-1883 so I can post them.

Next up, Provincials. They’re Saturday, Dec 3 in Selkirk. Lord Selkirk High School, 221 Mercy St to be exact. It’s only for U16 and older and costs $25. U16 and 18 weigh in before 10:15. U21 and Senior before 11:30. Let Brian know if you intend to go (Pinto can’t make it, cause he’s a jerk).

Finally, Holliday Classes. Our last class before Christmas will be Thurs, Dec 22 (which Pinto also can’t make, cause he’s a jerk). We start up again overfed and out of shape on Jan 10th. That’s a LONG stretch of time, so if you want some super easy judo homework, come see Pinto.

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to bring them up with Brian (who you can also call or text at 204-856-3684).

Let it Snow

So… I guess winter’s here.

There those first few days where everyone forgets where we live and thinks it’s the end of the world rather than exactly what our next three months have always been.

Having said that, I’m gonna wuss out and skip judo tonight rather than drive from Carberry. But Brian WILL be running classes, and if you can make it out, you should go. Smaller classes mean more one on one instruction.

Get out there. Don’t be a wuss like Pinto.

St. Boniface Afermath

Kind of a mixed bag on the weekend.

For the kids, Ryder, Aidan, Olliver, Luca, Benson, Eric, and Keeernin all did well. Ollivia and Troy did very well, considdering that they were thrown to the WOLVES in VERY difficult categories.

For the adults, Chysom and Wade had strong showings, but in the gold medal match, Wade landed on a shoulder and was hurt quite bad (like, he better have gone to emergency once he reached Portage kinda bad).

Alex and I ran pretty hard between coaching chairs (eating almost as much pizza as Aidan afterwards), and Brian should have lots of video to go through.

Tournament Meet Up

Everyone interested in travelling as a group to the St. Boniface tournament on Saturday should meet at the downtown Timmie’s at 8:15. We’ll be leaving at 8:30.

If you’re heading in on your own, remember that parking is tricky around Gordon Bell (we’ve had people towed in the past), and kids need to be registered and weighed in before 10AM. More info is avilable in the post below.

Brandon Tournament

Things went pretty well in Brandon.

Olivia got a silver medal out of five competitors (and there were some orange and green belts in there).

Andrew got a gold medal after three very short matches.

Troy got a gold, but we’re going to have a talk about it.

Dylaen got two silvers, and won a match with a very sweet throw.

Erin (who I know can smile better than that) and Dwight got silver medals. There was some good stuff in there, though I yelled “GRIPS!” from the coaching chair WAY too often.  Like, enough times for the crowd to think I had tourettes.

And Wade got a silver, doing really well against one of the best black belts in Manitoba. Generally, tournaments should combine weight rather than belt categories, but sometimes life is rough.

They also gave us our black belt certificates, which was nice.

Sorry, Troy and Dwight. Missed getting pics of you two.
